Industry Representation
- Support a recognised trade association representing the UK stove industry
- Be part of the wider conversation around responsible wood burning
- Support clear, evidence-based information about stoves and their use
As proud members of the Stove Industry Association, we're working alongside the wider stove industry to promote responsible wood burning, quality fuel and better burning practices.
The Stove Industry Association (SIA) is the UK trade body for stove manufacturers, suppliers and retailers, working to make wood heating cleaner and more efficient.
1What the SIA does
Developed initiatives including Ecodesign Ready and clearSkies to help consumers identify cleaner, more efficient stove technology.
Works with Defra, the Scottish and Welsh governments and local councils on wood burning policy.
Promotes modern stoves, qualified installers and the right fuel, such as Ready to Burn wood.
2Why it matters
A modern stove gives the same heat from far less wood
Logs needed to produce 4kW of heat over 5 hours2

Answers to common questions about the SIA
Burning dry wood is crucial for better heat output, efficiency, and reducing harmful emissions. Wet wood (above 20% moisture) produces more smoke, leading to creosote build-up in chimneys, increased air pollution, and potential stove damage.
The SIA recommends using dry wood, such as Ready to Burn certified firewood. Ready to Burn certification confirms that qualifying wood fuel has a moisture content of 20% or less, helping it burn more efficiently and with less smoke than wet wood.

Modern wood stoves offer significant benefits, thanks to Ecodesign standards and the clearSkies certification. These stoves are designed for high efficiency and low emissions, making them a more sustainable choice for home heating.
The Stove Industry Association (SIA) works to promote these standards, helping consumers understand the environmental advantages of using certified stoves with quality wood fuel. By choosing a clearSkies-certified Ecodesign stove, you can reduce particulate emissions by up to 90% compared to an open fire.

The Stove Industry Association (SIA) works with UK government bodies like Defra, the Scottish Parliament, and the Welsh Government, as well as local authorities. Internationally, they represent the UK in CEFACD (the European stove association) and collaborate with BioEnergy Europe, HETAS, and Woodsure. The SIA also engages with universities and academics across the UK.

Choosing an SIA member means buying from a business that supports the association's work to promote modern, efficient stove technology and responsible wood burning. When choosing a stove, look for an Ecodesign-compliant appliance and check whether additional requirements apply in your area, such as the rules for Smoke Control Areas.
